Elections & Voting

Registering to Vote

You may register to vote at the Town Office with proof of identification and residency. You may also register to vote at the polls on Election Day.

Accepted Proof of Residency

Documents must show your name and physical Industry address.

  • Maine Driver’s License or State ID
  • Utility Bill
  • Bank Statement
  • Motor Vehicle Registration
  • Hunting or Fishing License
  • Government-Issued Document

P.O. Boxes are not accepted as proof of residency.

Absentee Voting

Absentee ballots are available for all elections and allow voters to cast a ballot without going to the polls on Election Day.

Absentee Ballot Timeline

  • Requests may be submitted up to 90 days before an election
  • Ballots become available 30 days before an election

Election Equipment

The Town uses voting equipment provided through the State of Maine’s contract with Election Systems & Software (ES&S).

  • Multiple locking mechanisms
  • Password protection
  • Restricted chain of custody
  • Controlled ballot access
  • Independent testing before each election
  • Voting tabulators are not connected to the internet

Election Dates & Meetings

Annual Town Meeting

The Annual Town Meeting is held on the second Saturday in March each year at 2:00 p.m. at the Industry Town Hall, 1033 Industry Road, Industry.

Municipal Elections

The annual election for:

  • Select Board Member (3-year term)
  • School Board Director (every 3 years)

takes place during the Annual Town Meeting from 8:45 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Industry Town Hall.

School District Budget – RSU 9

RSU 9 holds a District Budget Meeting in May at the Mt. Blue Campus where voters may vote on itemized budget amounts.

The Budget Validation Election is normally held on the second Tuesday in June at the Industry Town Hall.

If no State election is scheduled at that time, polling hours are generally:

  • 12:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.

State Elections

State elections are typically held:

  • Second Tuesday in June
  • First Tuesday in November

Polls are open from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Industry Town Hall, 1033 Industry Road, Industry.

Marriage Licenses

Marriage License Information

Maine residents getting married in Maine must apply for a marriage license in the town where at least one applicant resides.

Non-Maine residents getting married in Maine may apply at any Town or City Office within the State of Maine.

Because marriage licenses require detailed processing, applicants are encouraged to arrive prepared with all required documents and information.

Please note:

  • Marriage license processing stops 30 minutes before closing
  • Forms should be completed before arrival
  • Forms should NOT be signed before visiting the Town Office

Items Required for a Marriage License

Please bring the following:

  • Completed Marriage Intentions Form
  • Valid photo ID for both applicants
  • Certified divorce decree, if previously divorced
  • Certified death certificate, if widowed

The Marriage Intentions Form must be signed in the presence of Town Office staff.

Authorized Marriage Officiants in Maine

The following individuals may legally perform marriages in Maine:

  • Ordained Ministers
  • Licensed Preachers
  • Maine Judges or Justices
  • Attorneys admitted to the Maine Bar
  • Licensed Marriage Officiants

Maine Notaries Public are no longer authorized to officiate marriages in Maine.

Vital Records

Available Vital Records

The Town Office provides certified copies of:

  • Birth Certificates
  • Death Certificates
  • Marriage Certificates

Who May Request Vital Records

Maine law limits access to records less than 100 years old to individuals with a direct and legitimate interest in the record.

Eligible individuals include:

  • The person named on the record
  • Spouse or registered domestic partner
  • Parent named on the record
  • Descendants
  • Legal guardian or authorized representative
  • Approved genealogists with a Maine CDC researcher card

Identification Requirements

Requests for vital records require:

  • Completed application
  • Valid government-issued photo identification

Examples include:

  • Driver’s License
  • Passport
  • Government-Issued Photo ID

Mail-in requests must also include:

  • Photocopy of identification
  • Or two alternate forms of ID
