Property Taxes
Tax Billing Schedule
The Town of Industry’s fiscal year runs from January through December. Property taxes are generally committed and tax bills are mailed in August each year.
Lien Process
If taxes remain unpaid, a 30-day lien notice is typically mailed in mid-June. Liens are then recorded at the Franklin County Registry of Deeds approximately 30 days later, usually in mid-July.
Under Maine law, the lien matures into foreclosure 18 months from the date the lien is recorded if the taxes remain unpaid.
Online Tax Payments
Current property taxes may be paid online using a credit or debit card through the State of Maine’s secure payment portal.
Please note that a 2.5% service fee applies to all card payments, including online and in-office transactions.
For more information regarding the property tax process or an address change for your tax bill, please contact the Town Office.

Motor Vehicle Excise
How Excise Tax Is Determined
In Maine, motor vehicle excise tax is based on the vehicle’s Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) when sold new, not the purchase price paid by the owner.
Because of this, Maine law requires that newly registered automobiles, SUVs, vans, and light trucks include the original Monroney Label (window sticker) at the time of first registration.
Heavy trucks registered over 26,000 pounds are taxed differently and are based on the purchase price.
Excise Tax Rate Schedule
| Vehicle Age | Rate |
|---|---|
| First Year | 24 mils per $1,000 |
| Second Year | 17.5 mils per $1,000 |
| Third Year | 13.5 mils per $1,000 |
| Fourth Year | 10 mils per $1,000 |
| Fifth Year | 6.5 mils per $1,000 |
| Sixth Year & Older | 4 mils per $1,000 |
Estimating Your Excise Tax
To estimate a first-year excise tax, subtract the destination charges from the original sticker price, then multiply the remaining amount by 0.024.
